With over a century of combined patient engagement experience we’ve helped approaching 100 organisations improve their patient engagement activity – across geographies and product lifecycles to better align patient, clinical, management and commercial perspectives.

Whether its developing patient engagement strategies, delivering workshops and master classes, or measuring the impact of engagement, our proprietary iLLUMiNATE tool and A4 model form a framework to then tailor a co-created approach to each project.

Say hello to Paul Robinson wha has recently joined the iLLUMiNATE Patient Engagement team…

Paul Robinson is a doctor who has spent 35 years in the pharmaceutical industry, in the UK, US and Europe. His experience includes Clinical Research, Medical Affairs and most recently worked as European Patient Engagement Lead for MSD. In that role, changing the internal culture towards a more Patient Engaged one was a major focus, accepting patients as legitimate stakeholders in the development of new medicines. Internally, a top-down and bottom up approach are necessary – getting hearts and minds (and resource !) at a senior level, along with capacity and capability at the local level is key. Externally, presence with patient groups, getting to understand their priorities and contributing to achieving them builds long term trust.

Understanding how a company is faring, strengths and opportunities, barriers (both cultural and process) is best understood by an outsider shining a light on areas, good and bad. The pharmaceutical industry is great with hard metrics – sales numbers, clinical trial data etc. but historically struggled with softer metrics around culture, behaviour and attitude. That’s why Paul is delighted to be working with Illuminate, to measure and improve. Paul co-led the Measurement Workstream of the IMI PARADIGM project, and worked closely with the PFMD consortium in its early days. Paul continues to see patients in an NHS teaching hospital, and is currently helping accelerate the delivery of clinical trials in blood cancers.
